Pope Pius XI was a significant Pope at the beginning half of the 20th century, the 20th century had seen many atrocities and it was previously considered the century that Satan would rule and it was a century where more atrocities were committed than any other century in history and the sexual revolution had taken over the world and threatened children and family. This encyclical on Christian marriage can be compared to the political commentary by George Orwell in 1984 in its prediction of a fallen state of affairs in our 21st century world. It is quite remarkable how so many issues which are pertinent today have been covered in this encyclical.
