Lumen Gentium (Light of Nations), Pope Paul VI, Item 10
Pope Paul VI
Lumen Gentium (Light of Nations)
One of the principal documents of the Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium, the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, articulates the origin, identity, nature, and mission of the Catholic Church. The main message of Lumen Gentium (Latin for “Light of the Nations”) is to 'declare with greater clarity “the nature of the Church and its universal mission” to accompany “the entire human race” on the journey toward achieving “full unity in Christ”. The Church is not just an institution but an entire community of the faithful, united by their common baptism and faith in Christ – the true Light of this World.
