Regensburg Address

The Regensburg Address was a lecture given by Pope Benedict XVI on September 12, 2006, at the University of Regensburg in Germany, where he had once taught theology. Titled “Faith, Reason and the University: Memories and Reflections,” it explored the interplay of faith and reason, drawing on historical and philosophical perspectives. Benedict argued that faith and reason are intrinsically linked, rooted in the Christian belief that God is rational (logos), and that both must work together to guide humanity. He warned against a “pathological” faith detached from reason—like religious violence—and a reason without faith, which he saw as sterile and dehumanizing.
